Bhubaneswar: Even after stringent laws brought in Parliament for safety of women in the country, the domestic violence and rape cases are on rise everywhere.
A shocking and brutal incident took place in early morning on Monday in a slum area here where a minor girl was allegedly gangraped in her house.
Police arrested two youths in this connection and forwarded them to court that sent them to Jharpada jail turning down their bail plea on Tuesday.
The accused were identified as Rashmi Ranjan Das (19) and Sanatan Behera (21) of Nimapara in Puri district. Both work as the labourers in Shantipali slum under Sahid Nagar police limits where the crime was committed.
According to reports, the accused entered the house of the minor girl in Shantipali early morning when the victim’s mother had gone outside. They tied the girl’s hands and legs and gangraped her in an inebriated state putting clothes in her mouth. They threatened to murder her if she discloses about the incident to anyone. After her mother returned the house, she found the door was opened and her daughter lying on the ground and crying. Her hands and legs were tied up.
The victim told everything about the incident to her mother. Following the incident, the slum dwellers started searching for the accused in the area, but failed.
A case was registered in the Mahila police station. On basis of the complaint lodged by the victim and her mother, the police started investigation. The victim was sent to Capital Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Police nabbed two accused while they were consuming toxic items sitting on the railway track in Bomikhal area on Monday night.
The scientific team visited the house of the victim on Tuesday morning and seized the clothes, rope used by the accused and girl’s clothes that she had worn during the incident. The articles will be sent to the forensic lab for examination.
