Cuttack: Childline officials and police yesterday rescued an eight-year-old boy who had been chained by his grandmother for the last two months inside a house at Niladri Vihar under Chauliaganj police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack.

According to reports, the minor boy used to stay with his grandmother in a rented house after his father passed away some years ago and his mother got remarried.

Childline members found the boy being chained and tied to a cot when they reached the house yesterday acting on a tip-off. The members requested his grandmother to release him but she refused to do saying that she has tied her grandson to prevent him from fleeing from the house as neighbours were complaining about his mischief.

The Childline officials then took the help of Chauliaganj police and rescued the boy from the house. After being rescued, the boy alleged that he was beaten by his grandmother and even deprived of food for days.

He will be produced before the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and further steps will be taken as per the direction of the CWC, said a member of the Childline.
