She is smart, sweet and lovingly called Saanu. A cute eleven years old, just in year 7 in a leading independent school in North West London, but already making waves in the intellectual world. Saanya Verma recently cracked the very tough Mensa IQ test with a score of 162 in her first attempt. She has topped with the maximum possible in both the Mensa Tests (Cattell IIIB scale– 162 and Culture Fair scale – 142). Mensa Supervised test sessions currently comprise two test papers. One is diagrammatical while the other measures largely verbal reasoning ability. A top 2% score on either would result in an invitation to join Mensa. This has put her bang on top one percentile across the globe. Mensa is the largest and oldest high-IQ society in the world. It is a non-profit organization open to people who score at the 98th percentile or higher on a standardized, supervised IQ or other approved intelligence test. This was formed in Oxford in 1946 by Roland Berrill, an Australian barrister and Dr. Lance Ware a scientist and lawyer.
Saanya loves to read but is not a bookworm. Meandering through the magical world of Harry Potter her agile mind also voraciously absorbs the exciting Hunger Games, Winds of Change and The Alex Rider Series. At a tender age of eleven she is impressed with a very mature quotation by Arthur C Clark -“Two possibilities exist; either we are alone in the universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying”.
Her pet subjects lie in the cosmos and maths but she loves English, Science, Latin and French too. A large amount of time is spent working on robotics and electronics but recently she is very interested in developing codes for the robots (Lego Mindstorms) and electronic instruments (Arduino). Among various career choices she has been considering, the few that seem to come up more often than others are: scientist, mathematician, biogenetics, robotics, and economist and may be banking (like her dad).
Saanu is not a picky eater but loves pizza, pasta, khichdi, chicken curry, rice, momos, curd, dal and MacD Burgers. She loves playing Lacrose the very English game and keeps her mind alert with chess. Not to miss out she is also training for singing. Balancing her immense intelligence with all the ordinary things that a little girl should be doing at her age, Saanya is a no fuss child. Her parents Sunita and Sunil Verma are on their toes catering to her enthusiasm, eagerness, inquisitiveness to explore, question, discover and give total support to her desire to learn and grow.
Saanya loves her childhood lullaby aa janhamamu saraga sasee that her mom hummed for her. She loves listening to childhood stories of her parents and waits eagerly for the vacation when she can come down to Odisha for family visits.
