Bhubaneswar, Dec 10:
A cold wave swept many parts of Odisha on Monday with the temperature dropping to 6.6 degrees celsius in Phulbani, an official said.
Phulbani town in the Kandhamal district recorded a minimum temperature of 6.6 degree Celsius — the day’s lowest in the state, an official of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre here said.
Local sources in Daringbadi, considered the coldest spot in the state , said it was ‘freezing cold’ in area over the last three days and things were getting worse by the day.
Although there is no official recording of the mercury level in this small tourist town, it could be anywhere between 3 and 4 degree Celsius, sources claimed.
Low temperature levels were also recorded at Titilagarh in Bolangir district (8.5 degree Celsius), Sundergarh (8.9 degree), Sambalpur (9.7) and Bolangir (9.4), the official said. Parts of Keonjhar and Mayurbahnj districts too were under the grip of a cold wave, local sources said.
Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, however, remained warmer, recording minimum temperatures of 16.1 and 14.5 degree Celsius, respectively, he said.
The cold wave is likely to prevail over some other parts of the state during the next few days and subsequently intensify, he added.
