Rayagada, Jun 23:
The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Kashipur in Odisha Rayagada district on Monday acquitted Netrananda Dandasena, the dismissed school sub inspector (SI) for allegedly manhandling Itishree Pradhan, a lady teacher of Tikiri Upper Primary School who died on November 1, 2013 four days after being set on fire by an unknown person inside the school hostel room on October 27, for lack of evidence.
It may be mentioned that Itishree had lodged complaint against Dandasena in Tikiri Police Station on June 18, 2013 for inflicting mental and physical torture. Police later submitted a charge sheet against Dandasena.
However, the court, while hearing the case, acquitted Dandasena for lack of evidence.
It may be mentioned that the JMFC had recorded the statement of eight witnesses in the same case.
Netrananda, who absconded after the death of Itishree, was arrested by the Crime Branch following a complaint lodged by former headmaster of Tikiri Upper Primary School, Chandrasekhar Panda.
The Crime Branch later framed charge sheet against him and submitted in the court of the District and Sessions Judge.
While the trial of the case is underway, the court till date has recorded the statement of 38 out of a total 75 witnesses.
However, taking strong exception to the inordinate delay by the Crime Branch in nabbing the prime accused in the murder of Itishree, the Supreme Court, in response to a PIL filed by a Sudipta Lenka a Law student of Bengaluru, had ordered a CBI probe into the incident on January 20 this year.
The CBI, in its fifth phase probe, has so far, interrogated 84 persons.
The apex court has asked the CBI to submit its action taken report (ATR) in the first week of August.
