Sambalpur, June 24:
A security guard working at the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) was today shot dead allegedly by a member of a private security company following a quarrel between the duo at the coal company’s headquarters at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
The deceased, identified as Biswajit Biswas, Assistant Security Sub-Inspector, MCL, died on the way to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla.
Biswas was on duty when he was shot dead by another security personnel identified as Binod Bihari Tripathy from point blank range, the police said.
“Tripathy, who was a private armed security guard having a 12 bore gun, was not on duty when he reportedly entered into a verbal duel with Biswas and shot him,” a statement issued by the MCL said.
