Bhubaneswar, Nov 27:

Twin City Commissionerate police on Saturday arrested a person for allegedly raping a young woman on the outskirts of Odisha capital.

Interestingly, the accused identified as Gandharba Nayak (55) had played the role of a matchmaker in the victim’s marriage ceremony which didn’t last long and she had returned to her father’s place few months ago.

According to reports, Gandharba had fixed the complainant’s marriage with a youth of Balpur village under Sakhigopal police limits on July 14 this year.

However, the marriage didn’t last and she returned to her father’s home at Uttara the very next day of tying the nuptial knot.

The accused hailing from Mangalpur village under Pipili police limits was staying at his father-in-law’s home in Uttara on the city outskirts.

Surprisingly, both fell in love and Gandharba developed a physical relation with her on the pretext of marrying her but later refused to keep his promise as per the complaint filed at Uttara police outpost.

The accused has been forwarded to court and police have started interrogation after registering a case (382/16).

The victim is three months pregnant.
