In view of the deteriorating law and order, rise in left wing extremism, violence in industrial units and poor fire service network in the State, the Odisha government has decided to augment the capacity of the State Police with fresh recruitment for 3456 posts.
Reviewing the recruitment plan of the Home department here today, chief minister Naveen Patnaik asked the Home department to complete the recruitment process in the current year.
It was decided in the meeting that in addition to the recruitment for 272 posts of sub inspectors, sergeants and deputy subedars which is already underway, fresh recruitment would be taken up for 541 posts for Mahila and Sishu desks, marine police and for upgrading the strength of police stations.
There will be recruitment for 2331 posts in the rank of constables, sepoys and assistant drivers
for raising of the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) and the 3rd Special India Reserve Battalion (Engineering) and other armed and civil police. Recruitment for 6256 posts in these ranks is currently underway.
The meeting also decided to recruit 318 other category posts like ministerial officers, technical staff in State Forensic Science Laboratory and 266 Group D posts for the State Police.
Besides, the meeting also decided to absorb 3000 tribal special police officers (SPOs) recruited earlier at a monthly remuneration of Rs 4500, in the Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OIPF) as constables. With the new recruitments, the state police will have an extra manpower of 11, 025.
