Phulbani, July 29:
Apprehending a possible move by the Maoists of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh to gain control in the Kandhamal district with the arrest of top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, a high alert has been sounded in the district to foil any violence by the left wing ultras during the ongoing Martyr’s Week that began in Odisha on Monday.
According to reports, the district administration has asked senior officials not to tour any part of the district during the observation of Martyr’s Week by the Maoists till August 3.
Apart from this, plying of all government buses run by the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) to the Maoist infested areas of Srirampur, Brahmanigan, Katingia, Belghar, Indranga, Karada and Pairaju in the district and all inter district bus services from Phulbani to Jeyopre and Muniguda have been stopped.
Besides, security personnel have been conducting intensive patrolling along the roads linking Kandhamal with Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati districts to foil the intrusion of the Maoists, the reports added.
