Bhubaneswar: Amid incidents of people getting killed by Maoists on suspicion of police informer and attack on contractor camps by the rebels, an audio tape has been released by the extremists opposing road construction works in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.

The tape features voice of Benu, secretary of Malkangiri-Visakhapatnam division, CPI (Maoists).

In the audio clip, Benu, on behalf of Maoists, has opposed construction of National Highway in Malkangiri.

He has alleged that mafias will use the roads to loot natural resources from the area. The roads will have no contribution towards development of tribals, he said.

Despite road construction in Bonda Ghati, many people are migrating to neighbouring states to work as labourers, he said.

He further said that farmers in coastal areas of Odisha are committing suicide though there is proper road connectivity in the region.
