Maoists kill village guard in Odisha’s Kalahandi

Maoists allegedly killed the village guard of Katlanga in Odisha’s Kalahandi district by slitting his throat suspecting him to be a police informer.


The deceased was identified as Chemu Harijan.

According to reports, the red rebels killed Harijan near a bridge at Chemuku village. They also torched his bike.

Notably, the Maoists had earlier kidnapped five persons of Katlanga village including Harijan protesting the death of female cadre Sangita in an encounter with policemen at Katlanga reserve forest on October 15. Holding Harijan captive, the Maoists had released rest of the villagers.

Wife of Harijan has alleged that the Maoists have killed him suspecting him a police informer. She further alleged that the Maoists have taken away Harijan’s Aadhaar card, ration card, voter card and bank passbook.
