Malkangiri, Sep 15:
Thousands of tribals led by Vijay Laxmi, commander of the Korukonda (Andhra) Dalam gathered inside the inaccessible and dense Ralegada forest in the cut-off region of Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district on the Andhra-Odisha border this weekend, reports said.
Senior Maoist leaders from outside the state participated in the ‘prajameli’, the reports added.
Maoists are observing ‘prisoners of state sympathy week’ in the Ralegada forest. The week-long observation, which began on September 13 will be continuing till September 19, sources said.
Organizers of the ‘sympathy week’ said the programme is being organized to express sympathy towards the hundreds of innocent tribals and their family members in districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati and Rayagada, who are rotting in various jails after being implicated in false cases and branded as Maoists by the police.
Maoist leaders at the huge congregation explained to the people Maoist ideology and its aims and objectives. Maoist cultural troupes also staged plays and dances to explain the Maoist ideology to the gathering.
Speakers at the convention said the government has blissfully forgotten the terms and conditions agreed to at the time of release of the then Malkangiri collector Vineel Krishna and warned that the government will have to pay a heavy price for this in the future.
Some family members of tribals arrested by the police on ‘false charges’ also attended the convention.
