Koraput, Nov 5:
Alleging bias in dealing with cases involving their cadres, Maoists have threatened Civil Judge (Senior Division) Debashish Panda to leave Koraput immediately or ‘face the consequences’.
The threat came in the shape of the letter, which was received along with some bullets and a detonator in a parcel sent through Speedpost. The packet was received yesterday and was opened today, police said.
The letter alleged that Panda rejected bail pleas of Maoist cadres and dismissed their petitions and warned him to refrain from such activities or ‘face the consequences at the Praja (People’s) Court’.
“During your tenure at Rayagada, you used to reject people’s bail application and petitions. Now also you are working with the same attitude in Koraput. Leave the place immediately or else you will be punished at the Praja Court,” the hand written letter in Odia read.
The sender identified himself as D Kameswar Rao, a resident of Raniguda Farm in Rayagada town in the adjoining district.
“We suspect it to be the work of mischief mongers to create panic. The bullets are dead and the detonator is an unused one. However, investigation is on and we have sought the help of our Rayagada counterpart to trace the sender,” said district superintendent of police (SP) Avinash Kumar.
When contacted, the superintendent of posts, Jeypore circle, BC Padhi said there were no gadgets to scan parcels and letters sent from the counters in the circle.”Therefore our staff were unaware of the contents of the parcel,” he said.
