“Naxalism remains a challenge for us. We have not been able to completely wipe it out from the state. Therefore we will be laying special emphasis on it in the days ahead,” said Marik.

Emphasising the need for civility at police stations, the DGP said stress is be given on effective functioning of reception centre and women and child desk.

“There should not be any gaffe in registering complaints at police stations; only then people will have trust on us. We should always keep in mind that police is there for serving the people. That should be always there in the back of the mind while serving in the police,” said Marik.

Odisha police is committed to the safe and smooth conduct of the Nabakalebara of the Lords, Marik said.

“We are committed to the safe and smooth conduct of the Nabakalebara Yatra of the Lords. The entire police force of the state will leave no stones unturned to ensure that. We will ensure that devotees not only Odisha but from across the country have a smooth darshan of the Lords,” he said.

Admitting that there has been a spurt in cyber crimes, the DGP informed that a cyber police station will be set up in Bhubaneswar soon. There is a need for imparting specialized training to police personnel for handling cases related to cyber crime, he said.

“It’s only in the police that sports meet is considered as a duty meet. We are grateful to the government for its decision to encourage appointment of sportspersons in the police,” said Marik speaking on the government’s decision to recruit sportspersons in the police.

The top cop who was the chief guest at the foundation day celebrations presented awards to 15 police officers for exemplary service.
