Maoist killed in encounter with Odisha police

Rourkela, Nov 11:

A Maoist was today killed in exchange of fire with joint forces of Odisha police, SOG and CRPF in Chandiposh forest near Rourkela.

The security forces have retrieved the body of the deceased Maoist and seized two guns from the spot. Besides, a large cache of supplies have also been recovered from Daldali hills where the Maoist camp was located.

The camp has been busted but the combing operation continues as the forces expect many casualties among the red rebels. The forces also suspect presence of another Maoist camp in vicinity.

Rourkela SP and CRPF Commandant have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

As per sources in the police, a team of about 20 Maoists from Anmol group were camping in the forest. The presence of Anmol in the camp, however, is not yet known. Anmol is the zonal head of Maoists in Sambalpur, Bargarh, Kuchinda, Deogarh areas.

Notably, acting on intelligence inputs, the allied forces of state police, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had been conducting combing operations since past five days. The CRPF personnel and Jharkhand police have sealed the Jharkhand border and tightening patrol there forcing the rebels to infiltrate into Odisha forests.
