Malkangiri: A Maoist couple, both hailing from Bijapur in Chhattisgarh, surrendered before police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district today.
They were identified as Bijal Kadme (26) and Soni Oyam (23) alias Nande. Both are allegedly involved in several incidents of blasting and murder. Kadme and Oyam were carrying a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh each on their heads.
According to police sources, Kadme joined Maoists organisation in 2008. He was arrested in 2012 and was in jail for a period of four years. After being released from jail in 2016, he was instigated to join the red rebels by some members of Maoists Frontal Organization.
After re-joining Maoists, he realised that senior leaders in Maoists organization have become self-centered and situation of lower ranked members is miserable, following which he decided to surrender.
As per the benefits under the surrender and rehabilitation policy in Odisha, he will get financial assistance to purchase homestead land, to construct house, to pursue studies and vocational training.
Similarly, Oyam joined Maoists organization in November, 2009. She decided to leave the party as she observed that the senior cadres are self-centred and situation of lower ranked cadres is becoming miserable. She will also get similar benefits as per the rehabilitation policy.
