Manhandling cops: Odisha court grants bail to Uzbekistan woman

Bhubaneswar: The sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court in Odisha capital today granted bail to the 21-year-old woman, apparently an Uzbekistan national, who was arrested for manhandling cops in an inebriated state at Kharvel Nagar here on July 23.

The court granted her bail on a personal bond of Rs 15,000 and two sureties, one being the woman’s relative. The woman, however, will not be able to walk out of jail till one of her relatives appears for her before the court.

It may be recalled here that on receiving information about the woman lying on footpath near a hotel in Kharvel Nagar, police reached the spot and tried to wake her up.

The woman allegedly hurled abuses, punched and kicked the police personnel, including a lady cop.

Police had recovered Rs 49,500 and an Aadhaar card from her possession, in which her name was mentioned as Duniya Khan, a native of Lajpat Nagar in New Delhi. The woman later told police that she belongs to Tashkent.

Police was investigating the nexus between city-based sex racket kingpins and pimps in New Delhi, from where allegedly foreign national women are traded to the city.

She was booked under Sections 294, 323, 353, 341, 427 and 506 of IPC.
