A person and his sister-in-law (younger brother’s wife) were killed by unidentified miscreants at Bhoimunda village under Sasan police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district yesterday night.


The incident took place when the duo was sleeping, sources said. They were murdered when their family members had gone outside in a marriage related work, sources added.

On being informed, police and scientific team reached the spot and started investigation. Preliminary probe revealed that loot was the motive behind the killing.

“Elio Munda, the owner of the house and a Border Security Force (BSF) posted in Punjab, had arrived here 2-3 days back. His wife and children stay here. The deceased are cousins of his wife. Munda had gone to Bamara yesterday to attend a marriage party. On being informed about the incident, he returned from the party. The incident took place yesterday night and primary investigations reveal that loot was the motive behind the murder,” said Gagarin Mohanty, Sambalpur SDPO.
