Man held after acid attack injures five in Odisha capital

Commissionerate police today arrested a man for allegedly injuring five persons of his family who hurled acid at them at a slum in Odisha capital over family dispute.

According to reports, the accused Sura Behera splashed acid on five members of his family following an altercation with his wife at Dhirikuti slum under Saheed Nagar police limits in the city.

Trouble started when the wife of the accused asked him to take their daughter to a hospital as she wasn’t keeping well. A reluctant Behera had a tiff with his wife and the heated exchange of words turned ugly as he threw acid on the family members injuring them. Behera was said to be under the influence of alcohol.

The injured include two children, two women and an elderly man.

The injured persons were rushed to Capital Hospital here where they were admitted for treatment.

Following the incident, one of the family members filed an FIR with the Saheed Nagar police station after getting first-aid at the hospital. Police rushed to the spot and nabbed the accused. Meanwhile, police is interrogating him to ascertain more details about the incident.

According to sources, the accused is an auto-rickshaw driver and hails from Nayagarh district. He is married to two women.
