Rourkela, Oct 28:

Police today arrested a man for allegedly hacking another man to death in Odisha’s Sundargarh district over extramarital affair.

The accused identified as Abhi Chatria (35) was arrested by Sadar police and forwarded to court for the gruesome murder yesterday.

According to reports, Abhi’s wife had developed an extramarital affair with the deceased identified as Rohit Neti. While Abhi is from Kirei village, Rohit hails from neighbouring Semani village.

The trio used to fetch firewood from a nearby forest where the illicit relationship developed.

When Abhi came to know about it, he vehemently objected to it. However, they didn’t pay any heed.

An enraged Abhi planned to teach the two a lesson. As usual they had gone to collect firewood yesterday where Abhi asked Rohit to stay back and his wife to leave for home. Abhi had an altercation with Rohit following which he snatched the axe from the latter and hacked him to death.

After hearing the cries of Rohit, Abhi’s wife rushed to the spot where she was also attacked by the accused. However, she narrowly escaped the assault.

“The accused person has been arrested and the murder weapon has also been seized. He was forwarded to court today,” a police official said.
