Bhubaneswar, July 27:
A 40-year-old man was found hanging from a tree inside the premises of the official quarters, allotted to the sitting BJD MLA and former Odisha minister Pramila Mallick this morning, police sources said.
The reason behind the man’s death is yet to be ascertained.
The deceased was identified as Surendra Routary of Binjharpur, who was staying at Jena Sahi in Badagada area.
Sources said Surendra, an auto driver by profession, was a strong supporter of the Binjharpur MLA Pramila Mallick.
The MLA expressed surprise and grief over the incident. She said Surendra was a BJD worker and that he had visited her quarters on Saturday. She, however, denied any knowledge of his problems or reasons that drove him to take the extreme step.
The police visited the spot after being informed by the staff working in the official quarters of Ms Mallick and sent Surendra’s body to the Capital Hospital for autopsy.
Police sources said MLA Mallick was not present at her official quarters during the incident as she stays in her private residence at Jagamara under Khandagiri police limits.
Meanwhile the Capital police, who have interrogated the staff at Ms Mallick’s quarters, are investigating into the possible reasons behind Surendra’s death.
