In a fit a rage, a man allegedly killed his wife with a hatchet in Odisha’s Puri district last night.
The deceased, a resident of Dagarpada village in Kuanpada panchayat in the district, has been identified as 42-year-old Sukanti Bhoi. The accused Manua Bhoi and his wife Sukanti were having family disturbances since last few days and had frequent fights.
They had a fight yesterday night and at around 7 pm following which Manua brought a hatchet and hit Sukanti’s neck hard, separating her head from her body, according to police sources.
Not satisfied, he severed her left hand and leg with the sharp weapon. He then ran away leaving her to die. The villagers called a 108 ambulance and took her to the Gop hospital where the doctor declared her brought dead.
After the hospital administration informed the Gop police station, a team headed by IIC Srinivas Mohanty reached the crime scene and started investigation.
The police have registered a case against the accused Manua Bhoi, who is absconding.
