In a bizarre incident, a patient was allegedly beaten to death by a co-patient admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital in Odisha’s Steel City.

According to reports, a brawl ensued between the duo in the wee hours today which turned ugly resulting in death of one of them.

In the dead of the night, the accused Jadav Munda attacked the deceased identified as Sambhunath Mundari with an iron rod.

“I ran towards the bed after hearing a loud noise. I saw my father bleeding profusely following this I informed this to security and the nursing staff. The doctor came and checked my father,” Bhala Mundari, son of the deceased said.

Though the reason behind the attack was not known, police are investigating into the case.

“The patient was referred to VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla yesterday. But, his relatives could not shift him due to some problems. He was to be shifted this morning. Due to some reason, a patient admitted to the same ward had a quarrel with him. At around 3 am, the emergency doctor attended the patient with injuries on the head. The patient was declared deat at around 5 am,” Dr Sasanka Kabi Satpathy said.

The accused patient admitted with wounds on his leg, however, fled from the hospital.

The 55-year-old deceased hails from Dharanidharpur village of Gurundia block under Birkera police limits in the district.
