Irate locals of Lakrutoli village under Nuagaon block under Bisra police station limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district today staged a 12-hour road blockade demanding compensation to the family of a man, who, along with his bullock died after coming came in contact with a live electric wire while cultivating a piece of land in the village in the morning.
The villagers later withdrew the blockade after the SDO (Electrical) and the local tehsildar provided compensation of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5000 respectively to the kin of the deceased. Besides, the tehsildar also provided Rs 2000 under Harischandra Yojana while a philanthropist Gajendra Das donated Rs 10,000 and a quintal of rice to the family members of deceased.
Sources said Gandhru Oram (45) had gone out with his bullock to cultivate the land in the morning when they came in contact with a live electric wire lying on the ground from an 11 KV tower.
As the villagers came to know about the incident, they rushed to the spot and staged a road blockade demanding compensation to the family of the deceased.
Following information, a team Bisra police led by IIC, S Das, rushed to the spot. But the irate villagers did not allow them to take out the body despite much persuasion.
However, the situation became normal after the district administration complied with their demands.
Police later took the body for post mortem.
