Soro: A person was beaten black and blue by the locals while fleeing after loot from several houses here late on yesterday night here in Odisha’s Balasore district.

The incident was reported from Dangalgadia Sahi under Soro municipality.

According to reports, the locals fastened the accused with rope and thrashed him without mercy while he was running from the area after stealing articles from houses.

After getting information, the Soro police reached the spot and rescued the accused from the irate villagers. As he was bleeding from his head, the police took him to the Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.

However, the accused denied theft allegation against him.

“As I regularly drink ‘handia’ (an indigenous alcoholic-fermented beverage made from rice), under its influence I picked up a utensil lying outside. The villagers caught me and beat up,” the accused said.
