Malkangiri, Mar 3:
The 12-hour dawn-to-dusk Malkangiri bandh call given by the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) paralysed life in this Maoist dominated district today.
All trading establishments, post offices and nationalised banks remained closed while passengers and transport vehicles remained off the roads.
Hundreds of Congress workers, led by Congress MP of Nabarangpur Pradip Majhi, picketed at the bus stand urging people to make the bandh a total success.
Talking to media persons, Majhi said the bandh call was given in protest against the brutal killing of five innocent tribals by the police and its highhandedness in detaining about 300 vehicles carrying the tribals to the samavesh held here yesterday.
He informed that the Congress would take up the campaign in every village, panchayat and block in the district to protest against the police brutality on the tribals in the coming days.
