Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police has foiled a major dacoity bid with the arrest of a gang of five armed robbers, who were planning to execute a crime in the capital city, police said on Sunday.
The accused were identified as Sujit Kumar Mallick (29), Ajay Kumar Nayak ( 30), Prabhas Ranjan Behera (26), Arun Kumar Barik (27) and Bighneswar Nayak (26).
The cops seized one pistol, one katuri (billhook), a piece of iron rod and a Hyundai Accent car from their possession.
Upon getting information from a reliable source that five persons had congregated under an underconstruction building near Hi-Tech Medical College and were planning a robbery, P.K Nayak, additional Inspector-In-Charge of Mancheswar PS gheraoed the place with his police team.
Wasting no time, the cops nabbed them and later it was learnt that the five were planning to commit a dacoity in a builder’s house at Pandara located on city outskirts.
On the basis of a written complaint by the additional IIC, a case under sections 399, 402 of IPC and section 25 of the Arms Act was registered at Mancheswar PS.
During the course of investigation, it came to light that several criminal cases against Bighneswar Nayak and Ajay Kumar Nayak were pending at Narsinghpur PS of Cuttack district.
The accused were produced before a local court which has remanded them to police custody.
