Rourkela, Oct 6:
Steel city police forwarded Anil Thakur (24), the prime accused in the murder of a woman of Gopapali near Vedvyas under Brahmani Tarang police limits in the wee hours of Tuesday, to the Court of SDJM, Panposh on Wednesday. He was arrested on Tuesday.
Briefing newsmen at the Brahmani Tarang police station, Rourkela Superintendent of Police (SP) Amitendranath Sinha informed that the deceased Sunita Kerketta was stabbed to death by Anil with the help of an iron crowbar. She was declared dead by the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) doctors on November 4 after being shifted from Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) with serious injury on her head. He was arrested and booked under sections 457, 302, 376 (2) (i) of IPC and 6 and 10 POCSO Act.
“Acting on the complaint filed by the mother of the deceased Meena Kerketta, we had launched a manhunt to nab the culprit after forming a team led by Upendra Pradhan, Inspector-in-charge of Brahmani Tarang police station. During investigation, the team detained Anil, a notorious criminal of Gopapali village near Vedvyas, because of his suspicious activities. On interrogation, he confessed his crime,” said Sinha adding that the accused killed Sunita after she refused to marry him.
Quoting from the statement given to the police by the accused, the SP said Anil was in a one-sided love affair with the deceased for the last six months. He flew into a rage after coming to know that Sunita’s marriage had already been fixed with Bijaya Lohar of Jharbeda under Bisra Police station and killed her, he said.
