Bhubaneswar: In yet another jolt to the Chhattisgarh government in the Mahanadi issue, the Calcutta High Court today asked it to withdraw the writ petition which was filed challenging the stay order of National Green Tribunal (NGT) over 31 projects of the government on the river, media reports said.
The court asked the Chhattisgarh government to withdraw the writ petition or else it will be scrapped, reports said.
The government appealed for deferring of the hearing and it has been deferred by the court till November 2, reports added.
Worth mentioning, NGT’s Kolkata bench on July 26 had stayed as many as 31 projects of the Chhattisgarh government on Mahanadi river including six grade-A projects.
Challenging the stay order, the Chhattisgarh government had moved the Calcutta High Court.
Notably, social activist Sudarsan Das had moved the NGT seeking a stay on the constructions saying that these projects would deeply affect the fragile ecology as well as lives of people in Odisha.
