Ganjam police today claimed to have busted a gang of looters with the arrest of seven persons including four women who posing as handicapped persons begged during day time and looted houses in the night.
Around Rs 40,000 in cash, a knife and other materials have been seized from them during an operation in Chhatrapur, the district headquarters town of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday, police said.
Police revealed the gang members belonged to Paradi village in Buldhana district of Maharastra.
The gang was nabbed from Chhatrapur railway station when its members were begging in the area posing as lame persons, police said.
The gang’s modus operandi was to identify houses and shops during day time while begging and loot in the night, police said adding they were operating in Chhatrapur and nearby areas.
