Lokayukta Bill tabled in Assembly

OST Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Feb 11:

assembly 1
The state government today placed the Odisha Lokayukta Bill-2014 in the State Assembly.

The Bill was tabled in the House by Parliamentary Affairs minister Kalpataru Das on behalf of chief minister Naveen Patnaik.

As per the provisions of the Bill, both incumbent and the former chief ministers would come under the purview of the Lokayukta, who has been empowered to probe into corruption charges against any MLA and government officer.

The Congress has castigated what it called the attempt to ‘rush through’ the Bill in the Assembly without adequate debate and discussion with all stakeholders, including the Opposition.
