Family members of a victim (Arjun Das of Gate Bazaar area of Berhampur) who is in comatose state  ever since a murderous assault on him, Sunday told local leading television news channel Kanak News that they were pressurized by the police to register a complaint against Ramesh Jena and his associates at the Town police station accusing them of making the murderous assault.

“The IIC and others had come. They asked us to mention names of Ramesh Jena and his associate Bapi. They said Jena and Bapi had attacked my son. I told them that had not seen anyone on that night. They told me that if I do not tell anything today out of fear, then tomorrow if my son dies post-mortem will not be conducted on him neither can an FIR be registered,” Arjun’s mother told Kanak News.

“Police asked us to lodge the FIR that my brother was assaulted by him and also added Ramesh Jena’s name. They said if we don’t lodge FIR post-mortem would not be conducted on my brother in the event of his death. The police won’t cooperate they said. They got us write the complaint,” said Arjun’s brother.

“Police forced us to lodge the FIR. We told them that we had not seen anybody. We even do not know whether it was an accident or he was attacked. They told us that perhaps we were scared of Ramesh Jena and not lodging the FIR. They asked us to write the names of Ramesh, Bapi and one Danda Maharana in the FIR,” said a relative of Arjun.

However, the police claimed that no one had complained against Jena earlier out of fear and ever since his arrest people are coming forward to lodge their complaints.

“The matter is under investigation. It won’t be appropriate to tell anything at this moment. His relatives have lodged the complaint. Earlier, they were scared and now since Jena is in custody, they have dared to lodge their complaints and we are investigating those,” said Trinath Patel, ASP Berhampur in his reaction on the allegations made by the family members of Arjun.

Also IG (Southern) Amitabh Thakur has refuted the allegations and said that the family which was scared of Ramesh Jena earlier had lodged the FIR on their own after his arrest.

Notably, Arjun Das, a youth of Gate Bazaar was subjected to murderous assault in Dalua Sahi under Town police station limits on January 2 this year. Arjun has been in comma since then lying on a cot in his home.

The Congress ever since Jena’s arrest alleging that his arrest was politically motivated, vindictive and the police was trying to falsely implicate him in fabricated cases.
