Khurda, Mar 12:
Enraged locals staged a road blockade at Pubusahi in Odisha’s Khurda district disrupting the vehicular traffic on the national highway for the better half of the day today.
The locals resorted to road blockade after a group of people from Sardhapur allegedly attacked them over an altercation over a bike overtaking a bus.
The assailants roughed up the residents of Pubusahi in full view of the police personnel which aggravated the situation, sources said.
Following this, they blocked National Highway-57 for nearly six hours demanding arrest of their attackers. They also burnt tyres on the road.
Vehicular traffic along the Khurda-Bolangir route was affected and four-wheelers were seen lined up along the road causing inconvenience to the commuters.
The Khurda Town Police Station IIC, SDPO, Tehsildar and other personnel reached the spot and persuaded the agitators to lift the blockade. After series of discussions and assurances, the demonstrators relented and allowed the motorists to move.
The cops have registered a case against the attackers and begun investigation into the matter.
With the situation still volatile, one platoon police personnel have been deployed to prevent any untoward situation and maintain law and order.
