Puri, Feb 22:
While the police are about to zero in on the assailants who opened fire at Law & Culture minister Maheswar Mohanty here on Friday night, the DGP Prakash Mishra told reporters they have got some leads on the culprits. He said the police had information that certain local miscreants were involved in the crime.
However, he refused to divulge the details of the findings so far.
Mishra visited the spot where the minister was shot at and held discussions with the SP Anup Kumar Sahoo and other senior officials. Mishra told reporters here that police had information of involvement of local miscreants in the crime.
According to sources in the local police, two persons had opened fire at the minister from a single point and the intention was to kill him. The man behind the attack has already been identified, said the source, adding, it is only a matter of time before he is arrested.
Local sources have rejected any political angle to the attack. The attack was most probably motivated by a business-related dispute, a local politician who did not wished to be named, told OST.
The DGP later visited the Kalinga Hospital in Bhubaneswar to see the injured minister.
