Bhubaneswar, Dec 8:
In a bid to bring peace and security to Sailashree Vihar and Niladri Vihar areas under Chandrasekharpur police limits, the Commissionerate police have decided to form two committees of elderly people with good reputation in both the areas to check criminal activities.
Chairing a police-public interface at Sailashree Vihar here on Sunday, twin city Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr R P Sharma urged the people living in apartments and local welfare association members to form committee with respectable citizens from among them as members to ensure safety and social harmony in their areas.
“During last interface at Chandrasekharpur area, we had decided to put a halt to the rising crime and other criminal activities with people’s help on a pilot basis,” said Dr Sharma, adding that two committees will be formed taking two persons each from the 24 colonies and 26 slums that come under the Chandrasekharpur police jurisdiction.
These committees would hold meeting once or twice in a month in the presence of an Assistant Commissioner of Police and the local Inspector-in-charge to discuss about law and order situation in their areas, he added.
He also said that a group of 15-20 members will be formed to keep vigil in these areas. A small amount will be paid as honorarium to them from the fund which will be collected from every house in the concerned areas and this group will work under the supervision of the committee.
People from different walks of life attended the interface and shared their views with the top cops.
