Lingaraj selfie row: Temple Trust starts investigation

Lingaraj Temple Trust in Bhubaneswar, Odisha has started an investigation into a young sevayat’s act of clicking a selfie with the Maha Deepa atop the 11th century Shiva Shrine on the occasion of  Maha Shivratri on March 7.


After media reports of the sevayat with the selfie photo came out the temple committee has started an investigation into the issue, on Tuesday.

The fact finding team will find out how the sevayat took a mobile phone atop the temple and took a selfie.

The sevayat  who took the selfie has been identified as Alok Samartha.

The chief of Lingaraj Temple Administration Abani Kanta Pattnaik, has said that the board will try to find out how the sevayat took a mobile and clicked a self photo with Maha Deepa.

Police DCP Satyabrata Bhoi has said that they are waiting for the report by the board.  He added that action will be taken against the sevayat if he was found to be endangering himself by taking a selfie atop the temple.
