Lightning kills two, injures 36 in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

In a tragic incident, two persons were killed and 33 others were injured when lightning struck a primary school in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district today.

lightningAccording to reports, a teacher and a student were killed and 33 students sustained injuries when lightning struck Rangiam Primary School at Rasgobindpur in Mayurbhanj district this noon.

The incident happened when classes were going on and all the students were in the class. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, said Betanoti Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Dhiren Chandra Nanda.

In a separate incident, three women sustained injuries in lightning strike while they were working in an agricultural field at Surukuna village in Mayurbhanj district. They were rushed to Khunta Community Health Centre (CHC).

Condoling the death of the teacher and the student, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for each of them.
