Purushottampur/Kuchinda, June 13:
Lightning claimed the lives of five persons in Odisha this afternoon.
In the first incident, three labourers of Kolathi village under Golanthatra police limits died while engaged in road construction work at Jharana Chhaka near Purushottampur. The deceased had taken shelter under a roadside tree to avoid rains when the lightning struck them.
The deceased have been identified as Gobardhan Behera, Sujan Behera and Kunja Behera.
In another incident in Taladhi village under Govindpur police station limits under Kuchinda sub division in Sambalpur district, two persons were killed and two seriously injured when lightning struck them.
The injured persons were later admitted to a nearby hospital.
The identity of the deceased was not known.
