Bhubaneswar, Nov 7:

The Odisha regional office Landesa, which is working with the state government to ensure land to all landless, reached out to 720 families in Ganjam district which was battered by Cyclone Phailin on October 12.

A total of 620 blankets and 100 Sarees were distributed to the affected families – spread over the villages of Dhepa Anterigaon and M. Govindapur of Purosottampur block and Mahuria and Bakilikana villages in Seragarh block.

The Block development officer and police officers (government), members of local self-government and peoples representatives participated in the process as a statutory norm.

“We felt it was our duty to be with the people badly affected first by the cyclone and then by the floods that followed in its immediate aftermath. We supported them by providing some relief in terms of woollen blankets and clothes,” said Sanjoy Patnaik, Director of Landesa, Odisha.

Incidentally, Ganjam was the district where Landesa started its pilot project, which has now been extended to all 118 tribal sub plan (TSP) blocks in the state, in 2009.
