Bhubaneswar, Sep 30:
The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) won the Senior National Women 7-A-Side Rugby Tournament by defeating defending champion Pune RFC by 12-10 in the final at Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday.
In the second half, Pune got the lead through the tries by Anapurna Bothate.
The rejuvenated KISS team, however, surged ahead in the final minute when Sanjukata Munda scored the winning tries.
Mira Rani Hemram of the champion team scored two points through conversion.
Earlier, in the semifinals, KISS had defeated the Jungle Crows 17-0 and Pune beat Delhi Hurricanes 5-0 points. Delhi finished third by defeating Jungle Crows 17-0.
Olympian Anuradha Biswal distributed the trophies as the chief guest of the closing ceremony in presence of Ashok Mohanty, Naba Ranjan Patnaik, Arabinda Mitra, ORFA president Priyadarshi Mishra, secretary Upendra Mohanty and treasure Shakti Ranjan Mohanty.
With this win, the KISS players including Sanjukta Munda, Bhagyalaxmi Barick, Meera Rani Hemram, Hiramani Soren, Hupi Majhi, Saraswati Hansda), and Laxmipriya Sahu, Sitamani Hemram, Rupali Soren of Bhubaneswar have been selected in the 30-member probable lists for the national camp to be held at Pune.
The camp would be conducted for the Asian Women Rugby Championship. (MM)
