Khandagiri, Feb 14:
On the pious occasion of Magha Saptami, the annual Khandagiri ‘Kumbh Mela’ began in the Odisha capital today. A mix of contemporary and ancient, the fair is a congregation of sadhus and visitors from the city and far flung areas.
Like every year, holy men from Banaras, Kashi and Ayodhya will gather for the mela at the famous twin caves–Udayagiri and Khandagiri. Adequate staying arrangements have been made for them, according to the organising authorities.
The mela’s ‘Meena Bazaar’ is a great attraction for the children and women folk as toys and household items are on display here.
The main attraction of the festival, Jatra Mahasamar, will start from Tuesday.
Like previous years, ‘Ramacharitmanas’ will be recited by many devotees at Maa Barahbhuja peetha while yajnas will be conducted at various ashrams.
At Arakshit Mutt, week-long yajna has been arranged at Anant caves. A special attraction will be tomorrow evening Lord Anant Keshari Udayagiri Jatra from Naga Mutt in Jagamara to Ranihanspur near Udayagiri mountain.
According to tradition, Lord Anant Keshari will travel with full fanfare to Ranihanspur and will come back after only a few hours of stay at Naga Mutt.
