Kendrapara, Feb 4:
Gangtok police, with the help of their counterparts in Rajkanika, arrested two brothers of Pari Nuapada village for committing dacoity at the residence of the Additional Advocate General of Sikkim last month.
The brothers, identified as Manoj Behera and Pankaj Behera, committed the crime at the residence of the AAG JB Pradhan under Gangtok Sadar police station while he was away in New Delhi with his family from January 4-19, said Ram Chandra Gauda, the SDPO of Pattamundai.
The two brothers were engaged for some plumbing work at the AAG’s residence and thus had unrestricted entry to the place, he said.
On his return from the national capital on January 19, Pradhan found his lockers broken and several articles, including 700 gms of gold, silver coins and Rs 40, 000 in cash, missing.
He lodged an FIR in this regard with the Gangtak Sadar police station the same day.
Gangtok police immediately swung into action and pressed sniffer dogs into service. The trail led to Pankaj.
“After taking the address of Pankaj from the contractor who employed him, Gangtok police reached Rajkanika on Monday night. After conducting raids at several places in the village, we managed to arrest the brothers and recovered 293 grams of gold jewellery, 570 grams of silver coins and Rs 2.50 lakh in cash from their possession,” Gauda said.
Gangtok Sadar police have taken the duo on transit remand to Sikkim after producing them before the Executive Magistrate–cum-tehsildar of Rajkanika on Tuesday for further inquiry, added Gauda.
