Housing and Urban Development minister Puspendra Singhdeo today directed all the concerned officials to ensure sufficient drinking water is made available to people in the areas likely to be affected by the cyclonic storm which may hit the Odisha coast on October 12.
In a press release, Singhdeo directed the superintending engineers of public health circle of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Balasore, Berhampur, Bhawanipatna, Sambalpur and the executive engineer, PH Division, Puri, Keonjhar, Baripada, Balasore, Bhanjanagar, Berhampur, Koraput and Rayagada to remain in readiness for supply of drinking water during and after the calamity on a priority basis.
He asked them to take some measures like having all water tankers filled and kept in readiness along with drivers, keeping all generators available with the department in functional condition, making chemicals like bleaching powder, chlorine, alum, lime, PAC etc available in adequate quantity and keeping restoration in readiness during emergency.
A 24-hour control room should function in PH Circle, division and sub-division offices with telephone and mobile phone arrangements, the minister instructed the officials.
