The female elephant which was undergoing treatment in the Kapasira forest in Odisha’s Deogarh district has died.
According to Forest department sources, the elephant cow died on Wednesday night. The sick pachyderm was undergoing treatment in the hands of a special team of experts from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) since Wednesday.
The elephant cow had strayed into Asurakhola village under Tileibani block on last Sunday.
On seeing the elephant lying at a particular place in the Kapasira forested area for three days, locals had informed the Forest department officials.
Forest department officials found the elephant to be sick.
Following persistent demands from the locals for treating the sick elephant, a tranquilizing team from Sambalpur and a team of experts from OUAT had arrived in the village and was treating it.
