Kandhamal road mishap: Odisha CM announces ex gratia, free treatment

Bhubaneswar: Expressing grief over the road mishap in Kandhamal district which claimed lives of at least 13 persons and left many others injured, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for next of kin of deceased.

Patnaik also directed to provide free medical treatment to the injured ones and wished their quick recovery.

Notably, 13 persons lost their lives and more than 25 others were critically injured after a mini-truck carrying them overturned at Poiguda ghat under Baliguda police limits in Kandhamal district.

Around 40-50 persons were onboard the truck and the driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheels at a curved portion of the road following which it turned turtle and fell into a gorge.

The truck was on the way to Brahmanigaon from Gadapur carrying the victims for an event. The injured ones have been admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment.
