Kalinga Lancers gets new coach Mark Hager

Odisha-based franchisee Idco-MCL Kalinga Lancers team got its new coach in the form of Mark William Hager.

Hager, head coach of the Women team of New Zealand, has been appointed as the new coach for the fourth edition of Hockey India League (HIL) for the upcoming series schedule to be organised from January 18 to February 21.

Besides, former team India goalkeeper Dr AB Subbaiah has been appointed as the team manager and Australian physiologists David Joha as the new trainer. Odia physiotherapist Mukti Prasad Das and video analysts Ganesh Kar have been retained.

Kalinga Lancers have been trying with new coaches every year for better results but hasn’t tasted much success with the formula yet.

The team had appointed Australian Terry Walsh as the coach in the first edition (2013) and the team finished at the bottom. Indian origin player Jude Felix Sebastian was entrusted with the job as coach for the year 2014 edition and the team finished fifth.

The former Australian field hockey player—Hager– has been pursuing a coaching career in the sport. With 230 caps and 179 goals to his credit, he has been coaching the New Zealand Women (Black Sticks) team since 2009. He guided the New Zealand Women team to victory at the 2009 Champions Challenge, silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, bronze at the 2011 Champions Trophy.
