Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, Justice Dhirendra Hiralal Waghela, was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court here today.
Justice Waghela was administered oath and secrecy by Governor SC Jamir at a swearing-in ceremony at the High Court premises in the presence of chief minister Naveen Patnaik, Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeeb Marik, senior judges of the High Court and other distinguished guests.
Justice Waghela replaced Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty, who was the acting Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court since March this year after the elevation of Justice Amitava Roy to the Supreme Court.
The Rashtrapati Bhwan had announced his appointment in a notification on April 13 this year..
He is scheduled to retire in August, 2016.
Born in August 1954 at Rajkot in Gujarat, Justice Waghela began his legal practice in his hometown in November 1975.
He was elevated to the bench of Gujarat High Court as an additional judge in September 1999 and became a permanent judge in May 2001.
Later, he was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court in March, 2013.
