Bhubaneswar, Sep 3:
Concerned over the recent agitation in western Odisha leading to boycott of urban local body elections in nine districts over the demand of lawyers for a permanent High Court bench, the Odisha government on Monday requested the Justice CR Pal Commission of Inquiry to submit its report by October this year.
The state government had set up the Commission in 2008 to look into the demands of setting up permanent Benches of the Odisha High Court in southern and western Odisha and submit its report within six months.
Since then, the tenure of the Commission has been extended ten times, each for six months. The last extension was given in June this year and the tenure of the Commission was stretched till December 2013.
While Justice Pal said he is yet to receive the letter seeking his report by October 2013,sources in the office of the Commission said that the letter arrived at the office after 5 pm after his departure.
The Commission had earlier expressed its displeasure over the problems in compiling the report due to lack of adequate support and materials.
