Bhubaneswar, April 14:
With just a day left for electioneering for the second phase of polls in Odisha, political parties have revved up efforts to woo the voters.
Star campaigners of all three major political parties – Congress, BJP and BJD – addressed elections rallies at various places today as the candidates roamed door to door and addressed small, roadside meetings in a last ditch effort to convince voters in their respective constituencies.
BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who has been maintaining a punishing schedule addressing an average of eight election meetings a day, campaigned at various places Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Baleswar districts today even as Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi addressed a massive gathering at Jagatsinghpur urging the people to throw out the BJD government in the elections and bring the Congress back to power in the state.
Former national president of BJP Nitin Gadkari is all set to address as many as four election meetings – at Morada in Mayurbhanj district, Soro in Baleswar district, Niali in Jagatsinghpur district and Jatani of Khurdha district -on Tuesday.
All three parties are making good use of the stars at their disposal – either as party members or just campaigners.
Predictably, the ruling party has the most impressive gathering of stars, has the likes of reigning superstar Anubhav Mohanty, yesteryear superstar Mahasweta Ray, Mihir Das and Satyaki Mishra asking for votes for the local BJD candidates.
It is slightly different in the case of Congress with two leading stars – Bijay Mohanty and Aparajita Mohanty – asking for votes for themselves in the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Lok Sabha constituencies.
The BJP roped in Bollywood star Mahima Choudhury to campaign for the party candidate in the Mahakalpada Assembly constituency today. It is also putting to good use its stars Sritam Das, Pinki Pradhan and Pintu Nanda in wooing the voters.
Though bereft of star power of the cinematic kind, smaller political parties like Ama Odisha Party (AOP), Trinamool Congress and Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM) have also intensified their campaigns with their own stars – Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Arya Kumar Jnanedra and Pyari Mohan Mohapatra- playing a leading role.
Besides organising road shows, street corner meetings and big rallies, political parties are also using high-tech gadgets to reach out to the people,
