Bhubaneswar, Aug 2:
As if the 96-member Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) was not large enough, OPCC chief Prasad Harichandan today said the list of office bearers would be further expanded.
Coming as it does less than 24 hours after the long-delayed announcement of the new look team. Harichandan’s statement suggested that some disgruntlement still remained in the state unit despite his attempt to take everyone along with a huge PCC.
“There were some minor mistakes in the list released yesterday. Some names were missing. We would release a revised list soon,” Harichandan said today.
Given that the office bearers of the party’s election committee and frontal organisations are yet to be announced, it is obvious that the size of the already large PCC would be even bigger.
The PCC chief said the first meeting of the new PCC team would be held within the next one week.
Most Congress leaders have welcomed the new-look PCC team though senior leader Laltendu Bidyadhar (Lulu) Mohapatra put a rider to his praise of the team wondering aloud about the role of the coordination committee.
“I think those at the district level who felt sidelined in the party have all been accommodated. No one will feel left out or neglected after the announcement of the new look team. But I am not too sure what exactly would be the role of the coordination committee,” Mohapatra said.
As if on cue, Harichandan clarified that the coordination committee would be an interface between the organisation and the legislators.
Vice president and deputy leader of the Congress Legislature Party Chiranjib Biswal described the new look PCC team as ‘balanced’ while former PCC president said adequate care had been taken to give representation to all sections and regions in the party.
